General Information

The Suk’ʷtəmsqilxʷ West Kelowna Arts Council (SWAC) is made up of a diverse group of people passionate about Okanagan life and the promotion of its people and culture. The Kelowna Airport Art Kiosk is a venture between SWAC and Skyway Gourmet Ventures Inc., (Skyway). The Kiosk is located in a Transport Canada National Secure Zone in the Kelowna Airport Departure lounge.

The annual opportunity to display and sell art at the Kiosk welcomes Indigenous and non-Indigenous Artists of the Thompson-Okanagan region.

Submission Opens: November 1st, 2018

Submission Deadline: November 30th, Midnight, Pacific Standard Time.

Membership/Jury fee:  Represented Artists must be members of SWAC. This membership is accomplished through the submission fee of $30, which you will be asked to pay.

Five (5) pieces are required; as well as a 50-word Artist’s Statement and a 50-word Bio.

General Criteria

Art must be Display-ready. 

All art must be original. Digital art; photography; lithographs etc. are acceptable provided they are limited, numbered editions, and not for sale elsewhere. Submissions of mass media will not be considered (e.g. printed art cards, calendars, photographs).

Artists must own copyright of their materials. No reproductions of, nor artwork that represents or depicts Public Art (that which belong to other Artists or are municipal property) will be accepted.

Subject Matter

All pieces must be Thompson-Okanagan themed. 

Must be Family Friendly. No nude depictions.

No items from the Prohibited Items list as provided by Customs and Security should be used (eg. untreated hide or feathers).

This Call welcomes 3d art; (jewelry, clay, stone, bronze etc), CD's; (local musicians), DVD's; (films) and local authors. (Culinary Artists are invited to apply through the 'Farm to Flight' program.)

Size

Size limitations should follow carry-on regulations. Maximum recommended size is suggested at 14" x16". ​​

Oversized pieces may be requested at the discretion of the Kiosk Curator for occasional display, once an artist has been accepted. Artist will be responsible for arranging shipping and payment of said costs by the purchaser.

Jury 

The Jury will be impartial, selected by Invitation of SWAC Council, consisting of professional Artists, Curators, Gallery Owners.

The Jurying process will be an open collaboration of Jurors.

The Jury's decisions are final.

Artists will be notified within 14 days of the close of jurying.

Performance

Successful retail performance is the Kiosk’s key requirement.  Due to the number of Artists, as well as the limited display space, SWAC will implement performance criteria during its annual cycle.

A cycle is deemed to be one calendar year of exhibition.

Commission

Commission paid by artists upon sale of work is 30 percent, broken down as follows: 25 percent to Skyway; 5 percent to SWAC.
